The conclusions in the latest Recovery plan for Baltic Harbour Porpoises from ASCOBAN5 (Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic and North Seas), confirm these assumptions: "With an extremely low density of porpoises, the animals are rarely seen or caught by fishermen . and (fishermen) are reluctant to accept any claims by scientists or conservationist that by-catch is a serious threat to the porpoise's population.
