Within the context of a forthcoming Decision (due on 17th December during a meeting of the European Council) on whether EU membership negotiations should be started with Turkey, the EESC adopted its own-initiative Opinion on the question on 1 July 2004 (Rapporteur: Thomas Etty, Group II, Employees, Netherlands).
