(16) In order to enhance trust in European Statistics the national statistical authorities in each Member State and the Community statistical authority in the Commission must enjoy professional independence and ensure impartiality and high quality in the production of European Statistics, in accordance with the principles laid down in Article 285(2) of the Treaty as well as the principles further elaborated in the European Statistics Code of Practice endorsed by the Commission in its Recommendation on the independence, integrity and accountability of national and Community statistical authorities on 25 May 2005.
