The age limit of 65 years is a rule of the Staff Regulations that covers all categories of personnel working for the institutions, be they officials, temporary, contract or auxiliary staff, as well as parliamentary assistants, following the recent adoption of a new regulation in this respect.
La limite d’âge de 65 ans est une règle du Statut qui englobe toutes les catégories du personnel travaillant pour les institutions, qu’il s’agisse de fonctionnaires, de personnel temporaire, contractuel ou auxiliaire, ou d’assistants parlementaires, après l’adoption récente d’un nouveau règlement à cet égard.

Welcomes the establishing a European Communities Personnel Selection Office by a decision of the European Parliament, the Council, the Commission, the Court of Justice, the Court of Auditors, the Economic and Social Committee, the Committee of the Regions and the European Ombudsman on 25 July 2002 ; notes that the Office is already taking charge of the selection of pre-enlargement auxiliaries on behalf of the Institutions for the purpose of drawing-up lists of suitable candidates; hopes that this will lead to the creation of a common European civil service, the curbing of costs and greater mobility between the institutions ;

16. Points out that Parliament undertook on 11 March 1999 to apply the assistants' statute from the start of this parliamentary term, a priority confirmed on a number of occasions in the new Parliament; considers it necessary therefore for provision to be made in the 2001 budget for the appropriate instruments to implement it; instructs its Secretary-General to have an ad hoc budget heading entered and to reorganise the establishment plan of the personnel directorate-general and augment the departments responsible for managing auxiliary staff contracts;
16. rappelle que le PE s'est engagé le 11 mars 1999 à appliquer le statut des assistants dès le début de la présente législature, priorité qui a été confirmée à diverses occasions par le nouveau Parlement; estime dès lors qu'il convient de prévoir dans le budget 2001 les instruments propres à son application; charge le secrétaire général de faire inscrire une ligne budgétaire ad hoc et de revoir l'organigramme de la DG du personnel en renforçant les services chargés de la gestion des contrats des agents auxiliaires;
