Les principaux points abordés furent la Commission d'enquête sur la Syrie, le dialogue interactif sur le Burundi, le dialogue interactif sur les droits de l'homme en Corée, en Érythrée, en Iran et en Birmanie, le réchauffement climatique, l'épidémie de VIH, le panel sur l'incompatibilité entre la démocratie et le racisme, le dialogue interactif sur le génocide et la protection des droits de l'homme dans la lutte contre le terrorisme.

Bij die internationale projecten zijn Belgische wetenschappers betrokken van het KMI, de KSB, het KBIN, de Plantentuin van Meise, de ULB, de KUL, de ULg en de UGent. b) Hun werkzaamheden hebben een belangrijke rol gespeeld in het behoud op nationaal en internationaal vlak van een Belgische onderzoekscapaciteit en, naast publicaties in "Peer reviewed journals", de weg geopend naar internationale instanties, te weten - het IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), - het SCAR (Scientific Committee Antarctic Research), - Clic (Climate and Cryosphere) - EBA (Evolution and Biodiversity in the Antarctic).
Des scientifiques belges relevant de l'IRM, l'ORB, l'IRScNB, le Jardin botanique de Meise, l'ULB, la KUL, l'ULg, l'UGent ont été impliqués dans ces projets internationaux. b) Leur travail a joué un rôle primordial dans le maintien d'une capacité de recherche d'origine belge à l'échelle nationale et internationale et ouvert la voie, outre aux publications dans des " Peer reviewed journals ", aux instances internationales : - CIEC (Groupe intergouvernemental d'experts sur l'évolution du climat), - SCAR (Scientific Committee Antarctic Research), - CliC (Climate and Cryosphere) - EBA (Evolution and Biodiversity in the Antarctic).

Préconise par ailleurs d'adopter une approche davantage opérationnelle et technique afin de contourner les obstacles politiques et d'avancer sur les projets; estime qu'une telle approche permettra de créer une dynamique positive à même de relancer l'UpM et de contribuer à restaurer un climat de dialogue et de confiance entre les pays membres; soutient les propositions visant à créer des coopérations renforcées, notamment dans les domaines d'action des projets de l'UpM: Dépollution de la Méditerranée; Autoroutes de la mer et autoroutes terrestres; Protection civile; Energies de substitution: Plan solaire méditerranéen; Enseignement supérieur et recherche, L'initiative méditerranéenne de développement des entreprises; Université euro-méditerranéenne; se félicite à ce titre des avancées obtenues dans la mise en place et le développement de l'Université euro-méditerranéenne EMUNI;

Le rapport « Bilan 2007 des changements climatiques : les bases scientifiques physiques » publié le 2 février 2007 par le Groupe intergouvememental d'experts sur l'évolution du climat (GIEC) des Nations unies (NU) confirme une fois de plus et avec une certitude scientifique accrue que si les tendances actuelles se poursuivent la situation va devenir très préoccupante.
