3. takes the view that the people and states concerned should be free to choose the path they want to take towards political, economic and social reform, including establishing election timetables to ensure a smooth transition, with the people's aspirations being taken into account in the long term; points out that the right to peaceful demonstration is inalienable; calls on governments to give a genuine guarantee in respect of freedom of information, expression and association, including free access to the internet and other means of communication;

Het VN-Handvest bepaalt dat, en ik citeer, want dit is van bijzonder belang: "The parties to any dispute (...) shall (...) seek a solution by negotiation, enquiry, mediation, conciliation, arbitration, judicial settlement, resort to regional agencies or arrangements, or other peaceful means of their own choice" (De partijen van een conflict (.) dienen (.) een oplossing te zoeken door middel van onderhandelingen, onderzoek, bemiddeling, verzoening, arbitrage, gerechtelijke schikking, hulp van regionale agentschappen of regelingen, of andere vreedzame middelen naar hun keuze).
Je me permets de citer la charte des Nations unies, car ceci est d’une importance particulière: «Les parties à tout différend [...] doivent en rechercher la solution, avant tout, par voie de négociation, d’enquête, de médiation, de conciliation, d’arbitrage, de règlement judiciaire, de recours aux organismes ou accords régionaux, ou par d’autres moyens pacifiques de leur choix».

– (DE) Mijnheer de Voorzitter, ik wil een mondeling amendement indienen tot wijziging van paragraaf 8. Voor het laatste derde gedeelte stel ik de volgende Engelse formulering voor: “in expecting action by Iran to address also other concerns of the EU regarding the fight against terrorism, the respect for human rights and Iran’s approach to the Middle East peace process” en ik verzoek u mijn voorstel aan te nemen.
- (DE) Monsieur le Président, je voudrais proposer un amendement oral au point 8, dont le dernier tiers devrait dire: «qui attend que l’Iran agisse dans d’autres domaines préoccupant l’UE, notamment la lutte contre le terrorisme, le respect des droits de l’homme et l’approche de l’Iran à l’égard du processus de paix au Proche-Orient», et vous demande d’accepter cette proposition.
