De Europese Commissie heeft op initiatief van België overeenstemming bereikt over de volgende tekst : « The new European international investment policy should be guided by the principles and objectives of the Union external action including the rule of law, human rights, sustainable development as well as taking into account the other policies of the Union and its member States.

B. whereas achieving the MDGs, which correspond to a number of human rights (the right to education, health, decent housing, et c.) enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, forms part of a broader approach seeking to promote sustainable development, justice, peace, good governance, and the rule of law,
B. Considérant que la réalisation des OMD, lesquels correspondent à un certain nombre de droits humains (le droit à l'éducation, à la santé, à un logement décent, ..) entérinés par la Déclaration Universelle des Droits de l'Homme, s'inscrit dans une approche plus large de promotion du développement durable, de la justice, de la paix, de la bonne gouvernance et de l' État de droit,

6. considers that Euro-Mediterranean could aim to become a fundamental and influent region with durable economic, social and cultural development as long as it is founded on the promotion of universal values of peace, democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law, the protection of the human being and its fundamental freedoms, tolerance, sustainable economic development; these can be shared by different cultures, while recognising the specificities of each of them;
6. considère que l'espace euro-méditerranéen pourrait s'employer à devenir une zone fondamentale et influente caractérisée par un développement économique, social et culturel durable, aussi longtemps qu'elle sera fondée sur la promotion de valeurs universelles de paix, de démocratie, respect pour les droits de l'homme et l'État de droit, de protection de l'être humain et de ses libertés fondamentales, de tolérance, de développement économique durable; ces valeurs peuvent être partagées par différentes cultures, tout en reconnaissant les spécificités de chacune d'elles;
