Vreemd, gezien artikel 6 van het non-proliferatieverdrag, dat België wel degelijk getekend heeft, stelt dat: "each of the parties to the Treaty undertakes to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament, and on a treaty on general and complete disarmament under strict and effective international control".
Cette attitude peut surprendre, l'article 6 du Traité sur la non-prolifération des armes nucléaires, dûment signé par la Belgique, stipulant que: "Chacune des Parties au Traité s'engage à poursuivre de bonne foi des négociations sur des mesures efficaces relatives à la cessation de la course aux armements nucléaires à une date rapprochée et au désarmement nucléaire, et sur un traité de désarmement général et complet sous un contrôle international strict et efficace".
