Als er gekeken wordt naar een studie van het Europees Parlement van 2014 ('Rebooting' the mediation directive: assessing the limited impact of its implementation and proposing measures to increase the number of mediations in the EU) waar de lidstaten werden bevraagd over het aantal bemiddelingen in burgerlijke en handelszaken die binnen de richtlijn bemiddeling (2008/52/EC) vallen, dan blijkt België op basis van een schatting tussen ongeveer 2.000 en 5.000 bemiddelingen per jaar te hebben en daarmee vrij goed te scoren binnen de EU. Enkel Duitsland, Italië, Nederland en Verenigd Koninkrijk met naar schatting meer dan 10.000 bemiddelingen per jaar en Hongarije en Polen met naar schatting tussen de 5.000 en 10.000 bemiddelingen per jaar scoren beter.

Seuls l'Allemagne, l'Italie, les Pays-Bas et le Royaume-Uni, où le nombre de médiations effectuées chaque année est estimé à plus de 10.000, ainsi que la Hongrie et la Pologne, avec 5.000 à 10.000 médiations par an selon les estimations, se classent en meilleure position.
