In Italië zijn er vier uitzendplatforms voor televisie: i) via satelliet, met daarop de belangrijkste vrij te ontvangen kanalen, plus de kanalen van Sky Italia waarvan de programma's kunnen worden bekeken via een abonnement of op pay-per-view-overeenkomsten; ii) hertziaanse terrestrische televisie (8), waarop in december 2005 zes nationale zenders actief waren: de RAI (vrij te ontvangen), Mediaset (9) (vrij te ontvangen en pay-per-view), Telecom Italia Media/La 7 (vrij te ontvangen en pay-per-view), Holland Coordinator Service Company Italia (HCSC) die eigenaar is van Prima TV/DFree, Gruppo l'Espresso en Television Broadcasting Systems (vrij te ontvangen) (10).

Op 22 november 2003 ondertekenden MobilCom, MobilCom Holding GmbH, MobilCom Multimedia GmbH, alsmede France Télécom en Wirefree Services Belgium SA een schikkingsovereenkomst, de „MC Settlement Agreement”, op grond waarvan de schuldenlast van MobilCom in belangrijke mate kon worden verlicht.
Le 22 novembre 2003, MobilCom AG, Mobilcom Holding GmbH, Mobilcom Multimedia, ainsi que France Télécom et Wirefree Services Belgium SA ont signé l'accord de règlement MC, qui a permis d'apurer dans une large mesure les dettes de MobilCom.
