In zijn «Interim monitoring report on progress in changeover preparations in the EU banking and finance industry» van juni 1997 drukte het Europees Monetair Instituut dit uit in de volgende bewoordingen: «Thanks to the early publication of the national changeover plan (the first one at the national level), the «Belgian model» for the introduction of the single currency in the economy has been increasingly seen as possible option in a number of countries (..).
