De term PIC staat voor Prior Informed Consent (betekent zoveel als “voorafgaande geïnformeerde toestemming”) en verwijst naar een procedure voor de uitwisseling van informatie omtrent bepaalde giftige chemische stoffen, in het kader van de import en export van dergelijke stoffen.

La procédure PIC - ou procédure de consentement préalable en connaissance de cause- a été formalisée au niveau international dans le cadre de la Convention de Rotterdam et à l’échelle européenne à travers le règlement n°689/2008 (aussi appelé « règlement PIC »).

Aanvankelijk is de PIC-procedure van toepassing op 22 pesticiden en vijf chemische stoffen, maar dit aantal zal in de toekomst nog stijgen (raadpleeg www.pic.int (WEB) om de stoffen op te volgen).
Initialement, 22 pesticides et cinq produits chimiques sont concernés par la procédure PIC mais ce nombre augmentera à l’avenir (consulter www.pic.int (WEB) pour le suivi des produits).
