Wel konden effecten aangetoond worden op secundaire eindpunten of na subgroepanalyse (bv. niet-fataal AMI bij mannen (Physician’s Health Study), CVA bij vrouwen (Women’s Health Study)).

In de Physician’s Health Study II vonden de onderzoekers geen significant effect van kortdurende (gemiddeld 1 jaar) inname van β-caroteen, maar langdurige inname (gemiddeld 18 jaar) ging wel gepaard met een significant betere score op cognitieve testen.
Les investigateurs de la Physician Health Study II n’ont pas trouvé d’effet significatif quant à la prise de β-carotène pendant une courte durée (moyenne d’un an), mais la prise prolongée (moyenne de 18 ans) a été associée à un score significativement meilleur aux tests cognitifs.

Hierbij dient opgemerkt dat niet alle resultaten éénduidig zijn; zo werd in meerdere rapporten van de " Physicians' Health Study" geen significant verband gevonden tussen enerzijds hyperhomocysteïnemie en anderzijds myocardinfarct en cerebrovasculair accident.
Il faut signaler à ce sujet que tous les résultats ne sont pas concordants; ainsi plusieurs rapports de la " Physicians’Health Study" n' ont montré aucune relation significative entre l' hyperhomocystéinémie d' une part, et l' infarctus du myocarde et l' accident vasculaire cérébral d' autre part.
