Gecontroleerde studies met oxcarbazepine in monotherapie bij patiënten die nog geen antiepileptica kregen, hebben aangetoond dat 1200 mg/dag een doeltreffende dosering is. Een dosering van 2400 mg/dag is echter doeltreffend gebleken bij therapieresistentere patiënten die overschakelen van andere anti-epileptica op oxcarbazepine in monotherapie.

Des études contrôlées en monothérapie menées chez des patients non traités à ce moment par d'autres médicaments antiépileptiques ont montré que la dose de 1200 mg/jour est efficace; néanmoins, une dose de 2400 mg/jour d'oxcarbazépine s'est révélée efficace chez des patients plus réfractaires, passés d'autres médicaments antiépileptiques à une monothérapie par oxcarbazépine.
