De werkzaamheid van levetiracetam als monotherapie is aangetoond in een dubbelblind " non-inferiority" onderzoek in parallelle groepen, waarbij het middel werd vergeleken met carbamazepine met gecontroleerde afgifte (CR) bij 576 patiënten van 16 jaar en ouder met nieuw of recent gediagnosticeerde epilepsie.
