Eén van de gekende oorzaken van TRALI is de aanwezigheid van leukocytenantistoffen (anti- HNA (human neutrophil antigen) maar ook anti-HLA (human leukocyte antigen) klasse I en II) in het plasma van toegediende bloedcomponenten (Benson et al., 2009; Silliman et al., 2009; Nuffermans, 2010).
