In vivo activiteit tegen HCMV werd bevestigd in gecontroleerde klinische onderzoeken met cidofovir bij de behandeling van CMV-retinitis bij patiënten met aids; deze toonden statistisch significante vertragingen in de progressie van CMV-retinitis aan bij patiënten die cidofovir kregen in vergelijking met controlepatiënten.
L’activité in vivo contre le CMV humain a été confirmée par les études cliniques contrôlées du cidofovir dans le traitement de la rétinite à CMV chez des patients atteints de SIDA. Elles ont mis en évidence un ralentissement statistiquement significatif de la progression de la rétinite à CMV chez les patients recevant du cidofovir, par rapport aux patients non traités.
