Autonome tekenen van panische angst (tachycardie, zweten, blozen) zijn gewoonlijk aanwezig. De symptomen verschijnen doorgaans binnen minuten na de inwerking van de stressveroorzakende prikkel of gebeurtenis en verdwijnen in twee tot drie dagen (dikwijls in uren).
