De stoornissen die hier bijeen zijn gebracht daarentegen, denkt men altijd te ontstaan als een direct gevolg van acute ernstige stress of aanhoudend trauma. De stressveroorzakende gebeurtenissen of aanhoudend-onaangename omstandigheden zijn de primaire- en overwegend causale factor en de stoornis zou niet zijn opgetreden zonder de inwerking ervan. De stoornissen in deze sectie kunnen aldus worden beschouwd als onaangepaste antwoorden op ernstige of aanhoudende stress, in zoverre dat ze interfereren met succesvolle 'coping'-mechanismen en daarom tot problemen in het sociaal functioneren leiden.

En revanche, on admet que les troubles réunis dans cette catégorie sont toujours la conséquence directe d'un facteur de stress aigu important ou d'un traumatisme persistant. Les événements stressants ou les circonstances pénibles persistantes constituent le facteur causal primaire et essentiel, en l'absence duquel le trouble ne serait pas survenu. Les troubles réunis dans ce chapitre peuvent ainsi être considérés comme des réponses inadaptées à un facteur de stress sévère ou persistant dans la mesure où ils interfèrent avec des mécanismes adaptatifs efficaces et conduisent ainsi à des problèmes dans la fonction sociale.

Results from the Japanese KYOTO HEART study, presented in September at the European Society of Cardiology Congress, demonstrated that the addition of Diovan to a non-ARB-based treatment regimen for high blood pressure provided a significant 45% relative risk reduction in cardiovascular events, including stroke, over a conventional non-ARB treatment regimen.
