Définition: La caractéristique essentielle de ce trouble est une préoccupation persistante concernant la présence éventuelle d'un ou de plusieurs troubles somatiques graves et évolutifs, se traduisant par des plaintes somatiques persistantes ou par une préoccupation durable concernant l'apparence physique. Des sensations et des signes physiques normaux ou anodins sont souvent interprétés par le sujet comme étant anormaux ou pénibles. Ingeschreven patiënten 1) voldeden aan de DSM-IVcriteria voor schizoaffectieve stoornis, zoals bevestigd door het Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Disorders, 2) hadden een totaalscore op de Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) van ten minste 60, en 3) hadden prominente stemmingssymptomen zoals bevestigd door een score van ten minste 16 op de Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) en/of Hamilton Rating Scale 21 for Depression (HAM-D 21).
Les patients recrutés 1) répondaient aux critères DSM-IV des troubles schizo-affectifs, confirmés par l’entrevue clinique structurée pour les troubles DSM-IV, 2) présentaient un score total d’au moins 60 sur l’échelle Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), et 3) présentaient d’importants symptômes thymiques, confirmés par un score d'au moins 16 sur l’échelle Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) et/ou sur l’échelle Hamilton Depression Rating Scale 21 (HAM-D 21).

Alle patiënten voldeden aan de diagnostische criteria van de “Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition” (DSM-IV) ten aanzien van de criteria voor bipolaire stoornis type I, huidige manische- (DSM-IV 296.4x), of gemengde-episoden (DSM-IV 296.6x) en bij screening en als uitgangswaarde hadden zij een score van ≥ 20 op de“Young Mania Rating Scale” (Y- MRS).
Tous les patients répondaient aux critères diagnostiques de troubles bipolaires de type I, d’épisode maniaque récent (DSM-IV 296.4x), ou mixte (DSM-IV 296.6x) du Manuel Diagnostique et Statistique des Troubles Mentaux, 4ème Edition (DSM-IV) et avaient un score ≥ 20 à la sélection et à l’inclusion selon l’échelle de manie de Young (YMRS).
