Hij kan nog steeds opteren om een specifieke specialiteit voor te schrijven die de apotheker vervolgens moet afleveren, en die ook terugbetaald wordt. Uitzondering zijn de antibiotica en antimycotica voor acute behandelingen vanaf 1 mei (zie punt II, Antibiotica en antimycotica).

Vanaf 1 mei 2012 moet de apotheker een voorschrift op merknaam van antibiotica of antimycotica voor een acute behandeling uitvoeren volgens dezelfde regels als bij een voorschrift op stofnaam (VOS).
