Net zoals bij osteopathie, resulteerden interne twisten in het ontstaan van twee grote stromingen, door henzelf de ‘straights’ en de ‘mixers’ genoemd tengevolge van een tegenstelling waarvan de oorsprong reeds teruggaat tot de begindagen van chiropraxie. De (denigrerende) term ‘mixer’ is van DD Palmer zelf.
Tout comme dans l'ostéopathie, des conflits internes ne tardèrent pas à apparaître, pour donné naissance à deux grands courants, celui des 'straights' (les orthodoxes) et celui des 'mixers' (les mélangeurs), et ce sous l’effet d’un désaccord dont l’origine remonte aux premiers jours de la chiropraxie, le terme (péjoratif) de 'mixer' ayant été inventé par D.D. Palmer lui-même.

De ‘straights’ vertegenwoordigen dan de stroming die meer teruggrijpt en de nadruk legt op de oorspronkelijke concepten van Palmer & zoon zoals subluxatie als (enige) oorzaak van ziekte, en manipulaties als enige aanvaardbare geneeswijze.
Les 'straights' représentent aujourd'hui encore le courant qui se base sur les concepts originaux de Palmer & fils, avec la subluxation comme (seule) cause de maladie, et les manipulations comme seul moyen thérapeutique acceptable.
