Volgens een recent artikel in Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin [2006; 44:86-8] blijven nog veel vragen over dit middel onbeantwoord, o.a. in verband met de veiligheid op lange termijn, de doeltreffendheid in termen van preventie van exacerbaties, hospitalisatie en nood voor orale corticosteroïden, en de criteria om omalizumab te stoppen bij afwezigheid van een gunstig effect.
D’après un article récent paru dans Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin [2006; 44:86-8], beaucoup de questions sur ce médicament restent sans réponse, entre autres en ce qui concerne son innocuité à long terme, son efficacité en terme de prévention des exacerbations, d’hospitalisation et du besoin en corticostéroïdes oraux, ainsi que les critères justifiant l’arrêt de l’omalizumab en l’absence d’un effet favorable.

De voornaamste ongewenste effecten van omalizumab zijn reacties ter hoogte van de injectieplaats, hoofdpijn en, zelden, lokale of systemische allergische reacties.
