It must be ensured that both spouses receive comprehensive accurate information concerning the implications of their choice of the law applicable to divorce, especially since the Member States’ laws differ considerably in a number of respects (such as the grounds for divorce, the forms which divorce takes, the terms and conditions for obtaining a divorce, the requisite separation period and other key aspects for the procedure).
