The JRC shall notably mobilise the necessary capacity and expertise in order to contribute to assess and improve the safety of nuclear installations and the peaceful use of nuclear energy and other non fission applications, to provide a scientific basis to relevant Union legisation and, where necessary, to react within the limits of its mission and competence to nuclear incidents and accidents.
