N.B.: In the aftermath of Tuesday's attacks on New York and other American cities, the European Economic and Social Committee has decided to issue a single press release on the activity of the ESC during its September plenary session (Mr Romano Prodi, president of the European Commission, was due to attend the plenary session on its opening day to present the White Paper on European governance and - with ESC president Mr Göke Frerichs - to sign a protocol of cooperation between the two institutions. Following the tragic events in the United States the previous day, he was unable to attend.
