Le Journal of the American Society of Nephrology a publié, en avril 2016, une étude (Proton Pump Inhibitors and Risk of Incident CKD and Progression to ESRD, Xie Y. et al.) dont les résultats montrent que, comparés aux antihistaminiques H2, les inhibiteurs de la pompe à protons semblent être associés à un faible accroissement du risque d'insuffisance rénale chronique (déterminée par certains paramètres biologiques).

In april 2016 publiceerde het Journal of the American Society of Nephrology een studie (Proton Pump Inhibitors and Risk of Incident CKD and Progression to ESRD, Xie Y. et al.) waarvan de resultaten aantonen dat, in vergelijking met H2-antihistaminica, protonpompinhibitoren lijken te worden geassocieerd met een licht verhoogd risico van chronisch nierfalen (bepaald door bepaalde biologische parameters).
