Prenons par exemple les écotaxes : quand nous débattons de la politique climatique, nous critiquons souvent les États-Unis parce qu’ils ne veulent pas renoncer à leur suprématie et se décider à signer des accords internationaux sur la protection du climat. Or, il y a en notre sein même des États membres qui s’accrochent à leur suprématie imaginaire et refusent de passer aux décisions à la majorité qualifiée par exemple dans le domaine de la taxation environnementale.
Let us take the example of environment taxation. In our discussions on climate policy we often criticise the United States of America for not wanting to compromise its sovereignty and enter into international agreements on climate protection, but there are Member States among us which also insist on keeping what they imagine is their sovereignty intact, and which do not wish to switch to a system of qualified majority decisions, for example, in the matter of environmental taxation.
