La décision de la Commission d'autoriser l'opération moyennant la vente de Thomas Cook est conforme à sa décision de l'année dernière interdisant le projet d'acquisition par le voyagiste britannique Airtours de son concurrent national First Choice, au motif qu'il n'aurait subsisté que trois grands voyagistes sur le marché du Royaume-Uni, à savoir l'entité issue de l'opération ainsi que Thomson Travel et Thomas Cook.
The Commission's decision to clear the operation subject to the sale of Thomas Cook is consistent with its prohibition, last year, of the proposed acquisition by UK travel operator Airtours of domestic rival First Choice on the grounds that it would have left only three big travel operators in the UK market, the merged entity plus Thomson Travel and Thomas Cook.
