I can say, and I have not heard in respect to my colleagues on the other side of the House, this about their complaint about this government or committee's ability to give enough time to research, work and move forward on legislation.

Avant toute chose, j’aurais voulu remercier tous les députés du Parlement pour leurs propositions concernant le budget 2010. J’espère que nous trouverons des solutions adéquates pour établir un bon budget 2010 au cours de la suite de la procédure budgétaire.
First of all, I would like to thank all the Members of the Parliament for their proposals regarding the budget for 2010, and hope that in the further budgetary procedure, we will find proper solutions in order to establish a good budget for 2010.

Mr President, please allow me to express my most sincere gratitude to all the Members who made a sustained effort on such a technical item. I feel this has helped us to make much more rapid progress since, had we been compelled to contemplate a second reading, we would have lost one precious year.

Par contre, en ce qui concerne le discours sur les travaux de la Conférence intergouvernementale, je profite de cette occasion, qui est pour moi la dernière en tant que représentant de la présidence tournante de l’Union européenne, de pouvoir m’adresser au Parlement, pour remercier le Parlement, vous remercier tous pour la contribution que vous avez voulu donner aux travaux et à l’engagement de la présidence italienne, une contribution fondamentale, certainement riche de critiques, de suggestions, mais également, je l’admets, de certaines appréciations qui font toujours très plaisir et qui contribuent à alléger la lourde tâche découlant d’un agenda parfois trop rempli.
On the other hand, as regards the discussion concerning the work of the Intergovernmental Conference, I take this opportunity, which will be the last opportunity for me as representative of the current Presidency of the European Union to address Parliament, to thank the House, to thank all of you for the contribution you have made to the work and the endeavours of the Italian Presidency, a fundamental contribution, containing, of course, a great deal of criticism and many suggestions, but also, I acknowledge, many appreciative comments, which always give much pleasure and help to lighten the sometimes heavy burdens of an overfull schedule we have to bear on some occasions.

Je voudrais aussi remercier tous ceux et celles qui ont bien voulu m'aider pendant mon séjour à Ottawa.
