Comme il s'agit de l'intérêt d'un petit pays, alors que M. Verheugen sert celui d'un grand pays en défendant la construction d'un gazoduc en Baltique (le "Nord Stream") et attend de la Finlande qu'elle minimise les problèmes environnementaux de ce projet, n'est-on pas en droit de se demander si, à ce sujet, l'Allemagne aussi ne traiterait pas la Russie comme un pays du tiers monde, et si le commissaire allemand, en sa qualité de commissaire en charge de l'industrie, n'a rien d'autre à défendre que les intérêts de l'Allemagne?
As it is a small country's interests which are at stake here, and since at the same time Mr Verheugen is lobbying on behalf of a large country's interest in the building of the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea, hoping that Finland will agree to attach little importance to the environmental problems associated with the pipeline, would it not be true to say that Germany too is treating Russia like a Third World country in this context, and does not the German Commissioner, as Commissioner for Industry, have any interests to defend other than Germany's?

Verheugen a déclaré qu’il n’y avait aucun problème pour que la zone libre de Chypre adhère à l’Union européenne.
What my fellow member Mr Αlyssandrakis said is true; this is the outcome of several events which have encouraged Mr Denktash and the Turkish Government, such as the Helsinki conclusions, which, to all intents and purposes, recognise the invasion and occupation of 38% of Cyprus in that they state that the Cyprus question need not be resolved in order for Cyprus to join the European Union, the declaration by G7, which has abandoned action under the UN resolutions in order to resolve the Cyprus question – and G7 includes Member States of the European Union – and the Verheugen statements, which basically recognise the occupation and the partition of Cyprus in that Mr Verheugen has stated that there is no problem and that the free part of Cyprus will be able to join the European Union.
