IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

Du côté des points positifs, je souhaiterais souligner la simplification à laquelle nous sommes parvenue grâce à l’unification des Traités, la nette distinction entre les compétences nationales et européennes, le renforcement du rôle des parlements nationaux et la garantie que l’Union dispose uniquement des pouvoirs lui étant attribués par les États membres.
On the positive side, I should like to highlight the simplification that the unification of the Treaties has achieved, the clearer distinction between national and European powers, the strengthening of the role of national parliaments and the guarantee that the Union only has at its disposal the powers attributed to it by the Member States.

As of the date of unification, the EC competition rules will be fully applicable to all agreements between undertakings, concerted practices and decisions of associations of undertakings which, in consequence of the extension of the territorial scope of the Treaty, fall under Articles 85 and 86 of the EEC Treaty. 2. However, if agreements, decisions and concerted practices which fall under Article 85(1) are amended within three months of unification so as to fall outside the scope of application of Article 85(1), the Commission will not initiate proceedings.

28 April 1990 - At the Dublin meeting dealing with German unification, the European Council confirms its commitment to political union and decides on the following steps: - "a detailed examination will be put in hand forthwith on the need for possible Treaty changes with the aim of strengthening the democratic legitimacy of the union, enabling the Community and its institutions to respond efficiently and effectively to the demands of the new situation, and assuring unity and coherence in the Community's international action"; - "the European Council in June the holding of a second intergovernmental conference to work in parallel with the conference on economic and monetary union".
