To return now, more systematically, to the different forms of cooperation with the Commission mentioned by Mr Almunia, I wish to say to you that there are three important new initiatives: the Jeremie Programme, which is a very original programme for transforming the structural funds into renewable financial instruments; the Jaspers Programme to which I have already alluded, which is a form of technical assistance to help identify and prepare major projects that can be financed by the structural funds; and lastly, the Jessica Programme in the area of urban renewal.

Activités relatives aux bourses PEC (Projets Européens Communs): sur le total des 1365 candidatures de PEC reçues, 975 (soit 71 %) se concentraient sur des domaines considérés comme prioritaires par les autorités nationales du pays partenaire concerné; trois nouvelles catégories de bourses ont été créées dans le cadre du programme Tempus pour l'année académique 1993/1994, dont deux, classées sous les rubriques PEC+ et CME+ (mesures complémentaires), sont destinées à remédier à la disparité existant entre les besoins tels que définis par les priorités nationales et les initiatives de la communauté académique européenne visant à répondre à ces besoins; au total, 11 PEC+ ont été sélectionnés et ont commencé leurs activités pour l'année académique 1994/1995.
Activities concerning JEP grants: 975 (71%) of the 1 365 JEP applications submitted focused on the areas considered as priorities by the national authorities of the partner country concerned; three new categories of grant were introduced under Tempus for the 1993-94 academic year, two of which were classified under JEP+ and CME+ (complementary measures), in order to reduce the disparity between the needs as defined by national priorities and the initiatives of the European academic world to cater for these needs; all in all 11 JEP+ were selected and have commenced their work for the 1994-95 academic year.
