H. whereas on 16 June 2015, the Secretary General of Bahrain’s main opposition party al-Wefaq, Sheikh Ali Salman, was sentenced to four years in prison in the context of anti-government protests which erupted in 2011 at the height of the region’s ‘Arab Spring’ uprisings; whereas his lawyers have reportedly been prevented by the court from presenting oral arguments and have not been provided with any meaningful opportunity to examine the evidence; whereas a group of United Nations independent experts, part of what is known as the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council, have urged the Bahraini authorities to release Sheikh Ali Salman;

Les dispositions de la présente section sont applicables aux professeurs jouissant du droit de plaider devant le Tribunal conformément à l'article 19 du statut.
The provisions of this Section shall apply to university teachers who have a right of audience before the Tribunal in accordance with Article 19 of the Statute.

1. Neither Article 64 of the Rules of Procedure of the Court of First Instance nor Article 24 of the Statute of the Court of Justice, also applicable to the Court of First Instance pursuant to the first paragraph of Article 53 of that Statute, nor any other provision of the Rules of Procedure of the Court of First Instance and of the Statute of the Court of Justice, place any obligation on the Court of First Instance to advise the party lodging an action that his application is inadmissible when it has not been signed by a lawyer authorised to appear before the Community courts.

L'article 19 concernant la représentation devant la Cour s'appliquera au Tribunal, sous réserve des modifications relatives au rôle des mandataires en brevets européens, qui sont proposées à l'article 11 de l'annexe II du statut et qui confèrent à ces mandataires le droit de plaider devant le Tribunal.
Article 19 of the Statute on legal representation is applied to the Community Patent Court with the amendments relating to the role of European patent attorneys which are proposed in Article 11 of Annex II to the Statute and who should have a right to speak before the Community Patent Court.

I therefore believe that the European Union must demand that the perpetrators and sponsors of criminal actions such as those of 11 September are brought before the International Criminal Tribunal, which would of course be the most appropriate body to judge such acts, which are, as we have already said, crimes against humanity.
