In June 2012, in its EU strategy towards the eradication of trafficking in human beings, the Commission urged Member States to ratify all relevant international instruments, agreements and legal obligations which will contribute to addressing trafficking in human beings in a more effective, coordinated and coherent manner, including the domestic workers convention.

Supports the Foreign Affairs Council conclusions of 10 October 2011 asking for the Syrian authorities to immediately alleviate the suffering of the populations living in crisis areas, including by allowing unhindered and sustained access for humanitarian agencies and workers and restoring basic services including unimpeded access to hospitals; reiterates it calls to the Syrian authorities to grant access to a UNHRC fact-finding missions, and to allow independent and international media to operate in Syria without restrictions. Syria must abide by its international commitments, in particular its obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights;

(6) Le champ d'application de la présente directive couvre uniquement les travailleurs mobiles employés par une entreprise de transport établie dans un État membre qui participent à des activités mobiles de transport routier couvertes par le règlement (CEE) n° 3820/85 ou, à défaut, par l'accord européen relatif au travail des équipages des véhicules effectuant des transports internationaux par route (AETR).
(6) The scope of this Directive covers only mobile workers employed by transport undertakings established in a Member State participating in mobile road transport activities covered by Regulation (EEC) No 3820/85 or, failing that, by the European agreement concerning the work of crews of vehicles engaged in international road transport (AETR).

Troisièmement, il est indispensable que les nouvelles directives se fondent sur les accords internationaux - je pense aux accords relatifs aux minorités ethniques, aux peuples autochtones, qui revêtent une telle importance dans le Mercosur et dans les autres pays - et sur les accords liés à l'Organisation internationale du travail, afin de prévoir des mécanismes de contrôle spécifiques susceptibles d'améliorer le fonctionnement syndical et des travailleurs et qui prévoient non seulement la participation conjointe au sein de l'ONU et d'autres organismes internationaux, ce qui conférerait une importance accrue à cet accord, mais également des mécanismes explicites de dialogue pour la politique européenne de sécurité et de défense, comme l'a récemment recommandé l'Institut pour les relations avec l'Amérique latine.
Thirdly, the new directives need to be based both upon international conventions – I am thinking of those concerning ethnic minorities and indigenous peoples, as important in Mercosur as in other countries – and upon agreements connected with the International Labour Organisation. In that way, monitoring mechanisms might be established, designed to improve the specific ways in which unions operate and workers are organised and providing not only for joint participation in the UN and other international bodies – something which would lend more importance to this agreement – but also for the existence of explicit mechanisms for dialogue in matters relating to the common European security and defence policy, as recommended recently by the Institute for European-Latin American Relations.
