The Commission has always rejected an official consultative status. One reason given for instance in the Commission's Communication on "An open and structured dialogue between the Commission and Special Interest Groups" [5] is that "the Commission has always wanted to maintain a dialogue which is as open as possible without having to enforce an accreditation system".
