FURTHER NOTING that the EU and the Seychelles are both Parties to the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC), the intergovernmental organization mandated to manage tuna and tuna-like species in the Indian Ocean and adjacent seas,

(1) La commission internationale pour la conservation des thonidés de l'Atlantique (ci-après dénommée "CICTA") a adopté plusieurs recommandations et la commission des thons de l'océan Indien (ci-après dénommée "CTOI") a adopté plusieurs résolutions créant des obligations en matière de contrôle et de surveillance, qui ont été transposées dans le règlement (CE) n° 1936/2001(2).
(1) The International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (hereinafter referred to as ICCAT) has adopted a number of recommendations and the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (hereinafter referred to as IOTC) has adopted a number of resolutions creating control and surveillance obligations, which have been transposed in Regulation (EC) No 1936/2001(2).

(2) The ICCAT Convention provides a framework for regional cooperation in the conservation and management of tuna stocks and tuna-like species in the Atlantic Ocean and adjacent seas through the establishment of an International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, hereinafter called the "ICCAT", and the adoption by the latter of conservation measures which become binding on the contracting parties.

(2) La convention CICTA prévoit un cadre pour la coopération régionale en matière de conservation et de gestion des ressources en thonidés et espèces voisines de l'océan Atlantique et des mers adjacentes, à travers la création d'une commission internationale pour la conservation des thonidés de l'Atlantique, ci-après dénommée "CICTA", et l'adoption de recommandations en matière de conservation et de gestion dans la zone de la convention qui deviennent obligatoires pour les parties contractantes.
(2) The ICCAT Convention provides a framework for regional cooperation on the conservation and management of resources of tuna and tuna-like fish in the Atlantic ocean and adjacent seas through an International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (hereinafter referred to as ICCAT), and the adoption of recommendations on conservation and management in the Convention area that become obligatory for Contracting Parties.

La proposition de la Commission à l'examen constitue une mise à jour du règlement (CE) n° 1936/2001, lequel rassemble les différentes mesures de contrôle adoptées par trois organisations régionales de pêche (ORP) concernant les thonidés - la Commission internationale pour la conservation des thonidés de l'Atlantique (CICTA), la Commission des thons de l'océan Indien (CTOI) et la Commission interaméricaine du thon tropical (CITT).
This proposal from the Commission is an updating of Regulation 1936/2001, which collected all of the various control measures agreed by three tuna regional fisheries organizations (RFOs) - ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna), IOTC (Indian Ocean Tuna Commission) and I-ATTC (Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission).

(5) For scientific research purposes masters of Community fishing vessels should be required to comply with the instructions of the "Operational manual for statistics and sampling of tuna and tuna-like fish in the Atlantic Ocean" published by ICCAT.
