En décembre 1992, quelque 70.000 Tadjiks, fuyant les persécutions qui avaient lieu dans leur pays ont trouvé refuge dans le Nord de l'Afghanistan. La moitié a pu retourner au Tadjikistan grâce à un programme de rapatriement initié en mars de cette année, mais arrêté en juillet suite à une épidémie de choléra et des attaques aghanes à la frontière tadjike.
Around half of the 70 000 Tajiks who fled persecution in their home country last December to seek refuge in northern Afghanistan have been able to return to Tajikistan under a repatriation scheme started in March this year but halted in July following a cholera epidemic and Afghan attacks on the border with Tajikistan.
