Accordingly, this policy of 'mainstreaming', or 'incorporating equal opportunities into all Community policies', must also find expression in the Structural Fund regulations, and we should welcome the fact that, following a number of policy initiatives taken by the Commission, the European Parliament and the Council to make equal opportunities a major political priority, equal opportunity policies have actually been incorporated in the new proposal as an aim, as a criterion and as an instrument of the general Regulation.
