Encourages the partners to reinforce their common efforts to promote peace, prosperity and progress in the Middle East on the basis of the successive initiatives undertaken by the Quartet in accordance with the Road Map, ensuring at each stage a regular, strong joint Quartet presence and dialogue at a high level; stresses the importance of a common approach towards the newly elected Palestinian Authority, insisting on the principles of non-violence, recognition of the state of Israel and acceptance of previous agreements and obligations, including the Road Map; calls on Israel and the Palestinian Authority to avoid unilateral actions which could prejudice final status issues; urges the Palestinian Authority to do its utmost to prevent acts of terrorism and Israel to stop settlement expansion and the building-up of the barrier on Palestinian soil; is of the view that commitment by the newly elected Palestinian Authority to the above-mentioned principles outlined by the Quartet on 30 January 2006 is essential in order to achieve the final aim of two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security; supports efforts towards effective humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people following the recent suspension of EU financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority;

Si l'on avait eu un peu plus de temps et notamment si l'on avait pu consulter les réfugiés eux-mêmes, qui ont eu dès le début des discussions d'Oslo le sentiment d'être tenus à l'écart, si l'on avait pu faire participer les réfugiés aux discussions de Tabah, les consulter et reprendre les négociations, je pense qu'on aurait pu, à défaut d'obtenir une entente sur le statut final des réfugiés, au moins accomplir un pas supplémentaire.
Perhaps, given some additional time and especially consultation with the refugee community itself, which felt from the very beginning of Oslo that they were not part of the process, if some more work could have been built on Taba bringing the refugees in, consulting, and then going back to talks, I think—whether or not it could have been a final-status agreement—we could have certainly made another step forward.

36. souligne que la recherche d'une solution à la question du futur statut du Kosovo sur la base des propositions finales de M. Ahtisaari revêt la plus grande importance pour la stabilité et la poursuite du développement de l'ensemble de la région; appelle dans ce contexte les gouvernements de tous les pays voisins à contribuer positivement à ce processus et à respecter les frontières existantes; d'autre part, soutient le point de vue selon lequel, à long terme, la solution concernant le futur statut du Kosovo tient notamment au fait que la Serbie et le Kosovo doivent devenir membres de l'UE ainsi que leurs voisins, étant donné que l'avenir des Balkans occidentaux réside dans l'Union européenne;

Stresses that finding a solution to the issue of the future status of Kosovo on the basis of Mr Ahtisaari's final proposals is of the greatest importance for the stability and the further development of the entire region; calls in this context on the governments of all neighbouring states to contribute positively to this process and to respect the existing state borders; furthermore, supports the view that, in the long run, the solution regarding the future status of Kosovo lies also in the fact that both Serbia and Kosovo are due to become part of the EU, together with their neighbours, since the future of the Western Balkans lies in the European Union;
