Afin d’atteindre les objectifs d’une meilleure évaluation et d’un meilleur équilibre des coûts et des bénéfices des besoins statistiques de la Communauté ainsi que d’un réajustement et d’une réduction de la charge liée à la législation statistique communautaire, afin de mieux répondre à la demande croissante, le comité devrait jouer un rôle plus actif dans la préparation et la mise en œuvre du programme statistique communautaire.
In order to meet the objectives of better assessing and balancing the benefits and costs of Community statistical requirements and rebalancing and reducing the burden of Community statistical legislation, so facilitating compliance with increasing demand, the Committee should play a stronger role in preparing and implementing the Community statistical programme.

2. La Commission coordonne les activités du groupe d’experts avec celles du groupe de travail correspondant sur les statistiques en matière de criminalité et de justice pénale, qui sera institué par Eurostat dans le cadre du programme statistique communautaire afin de représenter les autorités statistiques nationales.
2. The Commission shall coordinate the expert group's activities with those of the relevant working group on Crime and Criminal Justice Statistics, to be established by Eurostat within the context of the Community Statistical Programme as representing national statistical authorities.

In order to enhance trust in European statistics, the national statistical authorities should in each Member State, as should the Community statistical authority within the Commission, enjoy professional independence and ensure impartiality and high quality in the production of European statistics, in accordance with the principles laid down in Article 285(2) of the Treaty as well as the principles further elaborated in the European statistics Code of Practice endorsed by the Commission in its Recommendation of 25 May 2005 on the independence, integrity and accountability of the national and Community statistical authorities (incorporating the European statistics Code of Practice).
