Harper a sûrement fait la leçon aux autorités sri lankaises parce qu'il souhaitait que, en vertu du processus judiciaire, les accusés soient représentés par un avocat; que les accusés aient le droit d'interroger et de contre-interroger leurs accusateurs; que, s'ils sont condamnés, les accusés ne soient pas punis de manière arbitraire, mais qu'ils fassent plutôt l'objet d'une procédure qui est prévue par la loi.
Senator Mitchell: Surely Mr. Harper has purportedly taken the high road in Sri Lanka because he wanted to ensure that that judicial process would ensure that the accused are represented by counsel; that the accused get to question and cross-examine their accusers; that the accused, if ever they become convicted and punished, are not punished arbitrarily but there's some sort of structured way that's preformed and pre-considered in their set of laws.
