Une attente très forte des réseaux de villes européennes, mais aussi des acteurs des transports urbains (autorités organisatrices, exploitants, constructeurs) et des associations d'usagers, a conduit le Commissaire Jacques Barrot à annoncer en juin 2007 une initiative de la Commission dans ce domaine, reprise et confirmée par son successeur Antonio Tajani, qui souhaitait en faire une priorité de sa mandature.
High expectations on the part of networks of European cities, and also of urban transport players (organising authorities, operators and constructors) and user groups, led to Commissioner Jacques Barrot announcing a Commission initiative in this field in June 2007 which was taken over and confirmed by his successor, Antonio Tajani, who wanted to make it a priority of his tenure.
