In the opinion drafted by Mr Happart, the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development has proposed a number of important amendments to the draft Directive, with the aim of improving measures to promote the marketing of high-quality honey in the European Union and preventing distortions of competition caused by honey imported from third countries.
