Calls on the Commission to support, with all financial and political means, the efforts of Belarusian civil society, independent media (including TV Belsat, European Radio for Belarus, Radio Racja and others) and non-governmental organisations in Belarus to promote democracy and oppose the regime; sees the necessity to step up and facilitate the relations of Belarusian NGOs| with the international NGO community; at the same time calls on the Commission to halt ongoing cooperation and to withdraw its assistance provided to the state-owned media in Belarus; at the same time, the Commission should finance the reprinting and distribution of poetry books by Uladzimir Niakliayeu which were recently confiscated and thrown into fire by the Belarusian authorities;

As regards the argument that Canadian manufacturers produce hand pallet trucks at significantly higher costs than Chinese counterparts, and that an adjustment, based on the cost difference between Canada and the exporting producer’s own costs in the PRC should be made to the normal value, it should be noted that the production cost information of the exporting producer which made the argument was not accepted since its request for MET had been rejected. This significantly undermines the argument on comparison of costs.

Hon. Sheila Copps (Minister of Canadian Heritage, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, subsection 3(1) of the Broadcasting Act makes it very clear that the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has the responsibility to reflect Canada and its regions to the national and regional audiences while serving the special needs of those regions.
