In December 1992, the Commission approved aid in the form of debt write-off for the publicly owned yards in Greece, on the basis of the undertakings given by the Greek Government that the yards would be privatized by 31 March 1993, though only 49% of the Hellenic Shipyard if justified by defence interests.
