(2) If gunwales are fitted in two lengths, the joints shall be placed at approximately one third of the length from the stem or stern of the boat and at opposite ends of the boat and may be riveted or welded and, if riveted, the backing-up piece shall be angular in section, of the thickness of the gunwale, and the length shall be not less than eight times the depth of the gunwale but a suitable butt weld may be used without backing-up bar.

(5) Where the flare of the side shell plating is less than eight degrees outboard from the vertical for a distance of five per cent or more of the length of the mid-body of an Arctic class ship between the lower boundary of the lower transition area and the lower boundary of the upper transition area, the ice loadings shown in Column III of an item of Table III do not apply and the ice loadings shown in Column II of that item apply in substitution therefor.

Notwithstanding the general principle laid down in Article 3(2) of Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 whereby food business operators are not to use, where hygiene so requires, any substance other than potable water, provisions allowing the use of clean water for the handling of fish are set out in Part A of Annex I and in Chapter VII of Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs and in Part II of Chapter I and Chapters III and IV of Section VIII of Annex III to Regulation (EC) No 853/2004, in particular for handling fishery products on board vessels.
