I am responsible for the Language Statistics Section, and I am here with my colleague, François Nault, who is director of the Social and Aboriginal Statistics Division.

Dans mon allocution, je tenterai de présenter sommairement quelques-uns des résultats clés qui émanent des divers travaux qu’a menés la Section de la statistique linguistique de Statistique Canada en appui à la Feuille de route et aux communautés de langue officielle en situation minoritaire au Canada.
In my speech, I will try to briefly present a few of the key findings that emerge from the various studies conducted by Statistics Canada's Language Statistics Section in support of the roadmap and the official language minority communities in Canada.

Action Line 1: Supporting the construction of an infrastructure for European language resources Language resources such as dictionaries, terminological databanks, grammar books, collections of texts and voice recordings are an essential raw material for linguistic research, the development of language-processing tools integrated into data processing systems and for improving translation services.
