This is clear from the testimonies of the senior DG VI officials, especially that of Mr Legras, DirectorGeneral for Agriculture, who has repeatedly stated that the Commission could not go beyond the recommendations of the Scientific Veterinary Committee since, should it try to do so, it would not have the support of the Member States on the Standing Veterinary Committee.
