La Sabena avait initialement refusé l'accès au système SAPHIR arguant que London European, par sa politique de bas tarifs, présentait un danger potentiel pour le trafic au départ de la Belgique et que London European n'avait pas l'intention de confier le contrat d'assistance au sol de ses avions à la Sabena.
Sabena had refused access on the grounds that London European, by its policy of low air fares, would present a potential danger to its passenger traffic from Belgium and on the grounds that London European did not intend to grant Sabena the contract for the ground handling servicing of its aircraft.
